Korea’s 2026 classical music season promises a rich lineup with around 20 visiting world-class orchestras and many star soloists. Major foreign ensembles include the Dresden Staatskapelle (with conductor Chung Myung-whun and pianist Yunchan Lim), Munich Philharmonic (conductor Lahav Shani with pianist Seong-Jin Cho), the Philadelphia Orchestra led by Marin Alsop, and the long-awaited first Korea appearance of Teodor Currentzis with his orchestra Utopia. Other visiting groups include the Vienna Philharmonic, BBC Symphony/Philharmonic, Bayerischer Rundfunk Symphony (conducted by Sir Simon Rattle), and many more. Korea’s leading domestic orchestras—Seoul Philharmonic, KBS Symphony, and the National Symphony (Gukshim)—will feature high-profile music directors and guest conductors, varied programming (including opera concert performances), and collaborations with global soloists such as Rudolf Buchbinder, Leonidas Kavakos and rising stars. The piano scene is especially vibrant with recitals and concerts by Christian Zimmermann, Martha Argerich, Víkingur Ólafsson, and multiple recitals by Seong-Jin Cho and Yunchan Lim, plus a Chopin Competition winners’ gala. Overall, the season blends legendary masters and emerging talents across orchestral, chamber and solo programs throughout the year.
