Renowned veteran actors Park Geun-hyung and Jung Dong-hwan headline a new production of The Dresser in Seoul’s Daehangno theatre district. Based on Ronald Harwood’s play (inspired by his experience as a dresser for a Shakespeare troupe), the drama is set in wartime 1942 England and depicts an aging actor (“the Master”) struggling with declining faculties while his dresser Norman strives to keep a production of King Lear going. Park says the role of the Master feels close to him, and Jung emphasizes theatre’s enduring importance. Longtime collaborators Song Seung-hwan and Oh Man-seok share the role of Norman, and actresses Song Ok-sook and Jung Jae-eun play the Master’s companion. Directed by Jang Yoo-jung, the run opened on the 27th and continues at the National Theatre’s Daloreum Theatre in Jangchung-dong through March 1 next year. (Daehangno: Seoul’s theatre district)
