Korean cosmetics contract manufacturer Korea Kolmar announced it has earned qualification from the Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (KOLAS) to issue internationally recognized test reports for sunscreen (sunblock). This is the first time a Korean cosmetics firm has gained such accreditation. KOLAS accredits laboratories to international standards, and test reports from accredited labs carry official validity across more than 70 countries through accords like APAC MRA, ILAC MRA, and IAF MLA. Korea Kolmar previously passed an international proficiency test for sunscreen clinical evaluation run by BIPEA (the only global body for verifying sunscreen clinical accuracy), becoming the first manufacturer to do so and demonstrating testing capability on par with global clinical institutions. The company has also been strengthening sun-care technology—establishing a UV Tech Innovation Lab in 2022, holding about 100 sunscreen-related patents, developing a novel stabilized hybrid mineral+chemical (무기자차 and 유기자차) sunscreen formulation, and earlier securing FDA OTC recognition for the North American market. Korea Kolmar says the KOLAS accreditation confirms its international-level testing competence and will help supply more trusted products to domestic and overseas clients.
