Young Climber Connor Herson Repeatedly Free-Climbs Yosemite Big Walls

Connor Herson, 23, is drawing attention for a string of free-climbs on Yosemite’s big walls (large vertical granite faces). At 15 he completed El Capitan’s Nose as a free climb at a top grade of 5.14-. In October he made the first free ascent of El Capitan’s Triple Direct (30 pitches, previously rated 5.9 A2) within three days, with the hardest moves at about 5.13. Days later he free-climbed the Nose in 9½ hours without any falls. The climbs were reported in the December issue of Monthly Mountain (월간산).
