Artist Bae Jong-ho Celebrates Daegu Fatima Hospital 70th with 'Embracing Light and Shade'

Artist Bae Jong-ho opens a solo exhibition, "Embracing Light and Shade," at the Fatima Gallery in Daegu Fatima Hospital from January 2–16 to mark the hospital's 70th anniversary. Self-taught Bae has previously shown work across the region, capturing the subtle play of light in clear mountain streams, fresh pines, and rustic footbridges. For this show he presents a series of birch (자작나무) paintings, noting that birch bark has traditional uses—from being brewed as tea to serving as material in historic works like Goguryeo’s Cheonmachong horse painting and the Goryeo-era Tripitaka Koreana (팔만대장경). He hopes visitors will feel as if they are strolling through a peaceful birch forest while viewing the works.
