Heavy snow and bitter cold did not deter visitors from packing ski resorts across Gangwon Province on the last weekend of the year. Resorts such as Oak Valley in Wonju saw more than 300 morning visitors, Elysian Gangchon in Chuncheon reported about 3,200 daily entrants, and High1 Resort in Jeongseon welcomed roughly 9,900 skiers and snowboarders by late afternoon. Families, couples and groups of friends enjoyed skiing, snowboarding and sledding while some mountain areas recorded over 1 cm of snow and brief cold-wave (hanpa-teukbo) warnings, prompting safety reminders. Operators said the strong turnout gave a boost to local tourism despite frigid conditions.
