In 2025 Korea’s fashion and beauty industries pushed overseas to offset weak domestic demand, fueled by continued interest from young global consumers and the K-content (Korean entertainment) boom that draws tourists to flagship stores. Fashion brands — from fast retailers like 8Seconds to designer labels and new casual names — expanded into Southeast Asia, China, the US and Europe, opened physical stores and joined local marketplaces (e.g., Tmall), and broadened product ranges toward running and cooling-tech apparel as climate concerns reshape everyday clothing. K-beauty hit record export levels, surpassing $10.36 billion through November, and markets have diversified beyond China into Japan, the US and Europe. Retailers like Olive Young plan overseas flagship stores (Pasadena, California) offering curated “K-beauty showcase” experiences, while strong ODM/OEM makers (e.g., Kolmar, Cosmax) support global brand growth. At the same time, companies face cost pressures and reorganization, including workforce reductions and asset sales (notably AK Holdings’ sale of core business), as firms adapt to a challenging domestic market.
