Mezzo-soprano Kim Cheong-ja Tribute Concert and Pianist K. Kim Kyung-eun Recital in Seoul

A tribute concert honoring mezzo-soprano Kim Cheong-ja, a former professor at Korea National University of Arts, will be held on the 28th at Yeongsan Art Hall in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. Kim, who debuted in 1970 in Bern in the opera Tito’s “La Clemenza di Tito,” performed in European opera houses for 16 years before returning to Korea to teach at several universities. After retiring in 2010 she did volunteer work in Malawi, founding a school and teaching music to local youth; she is currently receiving cancer treatment in Korea. The program “Because You Are” features 13 vocalists, 3 pianists and a saxophonist performing a variety of vocal works. On the 30th, pianist Kim Kyung-eun (K. Kim) will present the third installment of her complete Beethoven piano sonatas series at the same hall. Trained at Yehudi Menuhin School and Purcell School in the UK and holding degrees from Juilliard and Manhattan School of Music, she has introduced many contemporary works to Korea and taught notable students such as pianist Lim Yoon-chan. Her recital, subtitled “Path to Silence,” will feature Beethoven Sonatas Nos. 4, 6 and 7. (Yeongsan Art Hall is a concert venue in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul.)
