The Mariana Visitors Authority is promoting the Mariana Islands as a sports-travel destination that fits the growing “run+trip” (runtrip) trend—where travelers include marathon events as part of their trips. Two signature races are highlighted: the Rota Marathon on Jan 31, 2026, which offers full, half and 5 km options on natural, scenic routes centered around Rota’s Round House and markets itself as a “healing” marathon focused on scenery and rhythm; and the Saipan Marathon on Mar 7, 2026, a World Athletics and AIMS certified race (official records recognized) with full, half, 10 km and 5 km races. The Saipan course is about 90% flat, making it favorable for personal bests and friendly for first-time international marathoners. The Saipan route will include a newly reopened road section near Micro Beach for seaside views, and post-race ceremonies and events will be held at the Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan. Sports ambassadors and influencers have previously boosted attention; early-bird registration (with discounts) is open through the 31st. For details, check the Mariana Visitors Authority official blog. (Note: runtrip — combining running events with travel; Round House — a local Rota landmark; Micro Beach — a well-known Saipan beach.)
