The 21st Gangwon Art Fair runs through the 28th at Chuncheon Culture & Arts Center, showcasing about 260 works by 104 artists from eight regional branches of the Korean Fine Arts Association (Gangwon chapter). The fair expands beyond traditional painting-focused fairs by inviting diverse creators—professors, 민화 (traditional Korean folk painting) groups, domestic and foreign plein air artists, young non-member sculptors and craft makers, photography collectives, and student winners from a partnered UNESCO Gangwon student contest. To make art collecting more accessible, many works are priced around 1,000,000 KRW (~USD 750), encouraging first-time buyers and widening the local art market. The exhibition mixes regional booths highlighting local artistic trends and invited booths emphasizing experimental and emerging voices. Seasonal features include a gift show, charity-linked programs, and a visitor-voted popular artist prize—the organizer will purchase the winning piece and give it to a visiting voter as an end-of-year gift—underscoring the fair’s aim to weave art into everyday life and community sharing.
