Pet Republic, a dog-friendly complex in Yongmun, Yangpyeong (Gyeonggi Province), combines a cafe, restaurant and pension so owners and their dogs can eat, rest, play and stay in one place. The site features a large 1,000 m² natural grass exercise lawn with about 150 mist nozzles to cool dogs in summer, a year-round pet pool (45 tons) maintained at 22°C water and 28°C air, and four-wheel electric bicycles for pet rides. The complex consists of a main building and annex; the annex houses a two-floor dog-friendly cafe with art on the first floor and a cinema on the second so visitors can enjoy exhibitions and films with their pets. The restaurant wall displays 3,000 LP records and high-end audio equipment while serving Western, Korean and snack-style dishes. Eight uniquely furnished rooms (pension) have soft carpets to protect dogs’ joints. Staff use a probiotic solution to neutralize marking odors and a sticker system lets patrons mark spots for staff cleanup in the off-leash cafe areas. The building was named one of Gyeonggi Province’s “Top 10 Unique Venues” for its distinctive concept and design.
