On December 26 at 7:30 PM, the Byun Seung-hee Korean Dance Research Group will stage a year-end program, “Traces of Dance, Marks of Life,” at Daegu Culture and Arts Center Bisul Hall. Rather than simply reenacting tradition, the performance treats Korean dance as a record of life, tracing personal and artistic journeys to highlight the aesthetics and spirit of Korean dance. Commentary will be provided by dance critic Yang Jong-seung to help audience understanding. Dancers from the research group will join regional performers from DancePeople (D&Soul) to present diverse bodies and interpretations that map the current flow of Korean dance. Traditional musicians—janggu (Korean hourglass drum), daegeum (bamboo transverse flute), geomungo (zither), haegeum (two-stringed fiddle), percussion, ajaeng (bowed zither), and piri/taepyeongso (double-reed instruments)—will accompany the choreography, emphasizing the inseparability of dance and music in traditional performance. Byun Seung-hee, a longtime Daegu-based artist and educator devoted to preserving and creating Korean dance, frames the show as both a reflection on his career and a conversation about passing tradition to the next generation. The concert highlights the strength of regional traditional arts outside the Seoul center. Tickets are 20,000 KRW; recommended for ages elementary school and up. For inquiries: 010-8311-0178.
