World-famous, anonymous artist Banksy unveiled two new street murals in central London just before Christmas, depicting two children in heavy winter clothes lying on the pavement and looking at the stars. The stenciled images, first seen on a garage roof in Bayswater and also on a concrete structure near Centre Point Tower, draw attention to children forced to sleep on the streets during the holiday season. Banksy confirmed the works on Instagram. The Centre Point location echoes local history: a 1969 shelter for homeless youth named Centrepoint (a charity supporting homeless young people) was founded nearby after a priest opened a church basement to those in need. Banksy, known for addressing war, poverty, refugees and other social issues through public art, has previously created pieces critiquing violence, homelessness and environmental damage.
