Fishing Report: Taesongdae Area Yields 1–3 kg Rock Octopus, Hot Season for Offshore CatchCreatrip Team
3 months ago
Freshwater: Consistent catches of crucian carp (23–30 cm) were reported in Myeongji and Samnak waterways near Busan, with several anglers landing multiple fish. Other rivers and canals around Gimhae and Ham-an also produced carp in the 22–31 cm range. Popular urban streams like Gwangryeocheon saw 24–31 cm fish in good numbers.
Saltwater: The Taesongdae (태종대) coastal area near Busan attracted attention as many boats reported abundant 1–3 kg rock octopus (돌문어). A brief east wind raised sea temperatures and increased fishing activity. Around Goseong and nearby waters, skiff fishing for flounder (어구가자미) produced 20–40 cm fish, with anglers landing 40–50 per person in 40–100 m depths. Shore and breakwater fishing in Uljin and Sokcho yielded steady catches of sea bream and cod (50–80 cm king cod or 대구).
Regional highlights included successful yellowtail (방어), amberjack (부시리), and red sea bream (참돔) catches near islands off Namhyangjesom and Jinhae, with many 40–50 cm fish. Changwon, Tongyeong, and southern islands reported frequent 35–54 cm black porgy/sea bream (감성돔) and larger specimen sightings, drawing specialists. In the Suncheon and Goheung inshore areas, large numbers of webfoot octopus (알주꾸미) and sizable yellowtail were reported; Wando and Jeju boundary waters produced hefty yellowtail up to 80+ cm. Note: some grilling fish (열기) trips saw poor results due to dispersed schools as waters have not fully cooled.
Overall, coastal seasonality is favoring octopus and larger game fish around Busan and southern islands, prompting anglers from the capital region to travel south for productive outings.
