CJ CheilJedang Launches Healthy Snack Brand 'Basak' with Four New Flavors

CJ CheilJedang launched a healthy snack brand called 'Basak' and introduced four new products: Basak Chip Herb Salt, Basak Chip Spam, Basak Popcorn Herb Salt, and Basak Popcorn Spam. The chips are high-protein, baked (not fried) and use upcycled broken rice from 햇반 (Hetbahn — ready-to-eat rice brand). Herb Salt chips feature oregano and thyme, while the Spam-flavored chips replicate SPAM’s savory, salty profile using a non-frying method. Basak Popcorn is made with a kettle (kettle) method using butterfly corn for a crispy exterior and soft interior, and includes whole grains for added fiber. The line was developed from CJ’s internal food venture program INNO 100 and initially launched in April 2022; it has expanded to markets like the U.S., Malaysia, and Hong Kong, selling over 2 million packs. CJ says it will continue expanding Basak with a focus on taste, nutrition, and sustainability.
