Seventeen-year-old violinist Kim Seohyun, noted for her ponytail stage look, insists youth is no excuse for mistakes and sets high artistic standards. After winning the 2023 Tibor Varga International Competition as its youngest champion, she has performed on many stages, secured sponsorship of a 1753 G.B. Guadagnini violin, and signed with Harrison Parrott (a UK management firm). Next January she will appear as soloist with the Daejeon Philharmonic and at the Daewon Cultural Foundation New Year concert, performing Bruch Violin Concerto No.1 and Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. Kim began violin at five, studied via homeschooling after Yeowon School (예원학교) and entered the Kronberg Academy in Germany this year, learning to manage life on her own. She says her goal is to convey the composer’s intent while sharing the music itself as the true protagonist.
