As Christmas approaches, Gangwon's cultural scene offers diverse performances and exhibitions promoting sharing and togetherness. The Chuncheon Puppet Festival runs on Dec 24–25 with shows including Kim Gyuri’s shadow play ‘Kkeorae-i’ about Korea’s colonial-era pain, Byeolbyeolsuda troupe’s animal-themed ‘Komul Komul Carnival!’, and healing play ‘Oh, My Roshi’. The festival also revisits award-winning works from the ‘It-da Puppet Festival’ such as Talnom’s ‘This Neighborhood’s Talnoms’ and Mulkko’s ‘Vroom Vroom Defense Mode!’. On Dec 24 at Gangneung Art Center, a traditional Korean music (gugak) concert titled “Gangneung, Excitement” features singers Jang Sa-ik, Song So-hee, haegeum player Kang Eun-il and the Gangwon Provincial Traditional Orchestra, opening with the orchestral piece ‘Miracle’. Through their voices and instruments they evoke the distinctive sounds of Gangneung. Until Dec 30, Gallery Won in Wonju hosts Sang-a’s solo exhibition ‘My Companion Star’, exploring themes of home, swallows (symbolizing return), and the moon as small lights of memory and hope guiding the future.
