7-Eleven Korea teamed up with chipmaker SK hynix to release a novelty snack called 'Honey Banana-flavored HBM Chip' (HBM: High Bandwidth Memory, a type of semiconductor). Launched Nov. 26, the square-shaped chips—designed to resemble HBM semiconductor chips and packaged with SK hynix’s mascot—sold 200,000 units in three weeks, with the first 100,000 selling out in nine days. The product climbed into the top three of 7-Eleven’s snack rankings and drove strong online interest: in mid-December, in-app stock searches rose 50% compared with launch week, and combined social media views topped 3 million. Stores near SK hynix offices saw especially high demand—the top-selling store is just 500m from SK hynix’s Icheon office and even set up a dedicated display and box deliveries to staff. 7-Eleven also runs a promotion offering gold (20 don, a Korean unit of gold weight) prizes for sticker entries. 7-Eleven hopes the playful collaboration will keep attracting customers with both taste and prizes.
