Since visa-free group travel from China began on Sept. 29, 17,700 Chinese tourists have visited Incheon Port by ferry, Incheon Tourism Organization said. Working with Incheon city, the organization developed 44 China–Korea ferry route packages linking major Chinese coastal cities and Incheon attractions like Chinatown, the Open Port area (개항장), Songdo and Ganghwa Island. In September they held a ferry-based tourism briefing aboard Weidong Ferry (Weihai–Incheon) with 30 people from 27 Chinese travel agencies; participants experienced local programs and quickly began creating products. City and tourism officials, ferry operators and travel agencies created combined ferry, lodging and local-experience packages and are conducting joint promotions. Based on current momentum, they plan to continue expanding ferry-based tourism and expect 15,000 more Chinese ferry visitors in Q1 next year. Incheon Tourism Organization stressed that efforts are moving from recovery to expansion through public–private cooperation.
