South Korea’s exports have surpassed last year’s record $683.6 billion as of Dec. 22, driven largely by a strong semiconductor sector. Semiconductor exports rose 20% to $152.6 billion (Jan–Nov), fueled by Big Tech demand for AI data center memory and rising fixed prices. Five key sectors—semiconductors, automobiles, ships, biohealth, and computers—led the gains. Autos reached $66.0 billion (+2%) despite U.S. tariffs and more local production, while ships grew 29% to $29.0 billion and biohealth 7% to $14.7 billion. The Trade Ministry plans to support market and product diversification and strengthen trade support to keep export momentum.
