Paju City in Gyeonggi Province announced that Munsan-ri in Munsan-eup was chosen as a target area for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s 2025 second-half ‘local specialized urban regeneration’ competition. Over the next four years, the city will invest 41 billion won (national 13.2 billion, local 10.3 billion, linked ministries 17.5 billion) to develop the area into a northern Gyeonggi peace tourism hub. The project, called “Peace Road Munsan,” aims to revitalize the depressed old downtown by connecting key sites—Munsancheon (a stream), Munsan Station, and Jayu Market (Freedom Market)—with bicycle-friendly routes and cultural rest areas, and by creating a peace-themed specialty street. Plans include a mixed cultural space combining sunset riverside views, bike paths that link to the DMZ Peace Trail (DMZ Peace Nuri-gil), and collaboration among residents, merchants, and young people to restore local commerce and build a sustainable urban-regeneration base. City officials ask for active public interest and participation to make the project a model for sustainable urban renewal.
