Ring in 2026 in Sinchon: Seodaemun's New Year Countdown Concert

Seodaemun District will host the '2026 Sinchon Countdown Concert' at Yonsei-ro Star Square (next to Yonsei University) from Dec 31, 10:00 PM to Jan 1, 12:30 AM. Now in its third year, the free event features college performance teams — Ewha Womans University cheer squad 'Pyrus', Kyonggi University dance club 'C.E.S', and students from Kyungbok College's practical music department — as well as K-pop acts M.O.N.T, singer Cyburger, and the Yuk Joong-wan Band. Local figures who brought honor to Seodaemun, including women's basketball coach Park Chan-sook and Elizabeth Junilda Sanchez Rivero (a descendant of Cuban independence activists), will lead the midnight countdown ceremony. Attendees will join a New Year’s ritual called 'Happiness 300% Dream Cheers,' where people pass six oversized balls overhead in a wave to symbolize happiness, health and longevity. Yonsei-ro will be closed to traffic from 5:00 PM Dec 31 to 6:00 AM Jan 1, and buses will be rerouted. The district head encouraged residents and visitors to finish the year meaningfully and start 2026 with hope.
