K-pop star Ohk Joo-hyun brings a humidifier to karaoke to protect her voice

Former Fin.K.L singer and musical actress Ohk Joo-hyun revealed on a YouTube show that she famously brought a humidifier to karaoke (noraebang) to keep her vocal cords moist while drinking and singing. She said she always chose a drink that wouldn’t make her heart race and once drank many soju cocktails during her idol days, when karaoke culture was strong. Experts explain humidifiers can help vocal health by raising indoor humidity to prevent dry vocal cords and hoarseness, but recommend keeping humidity at 40–60% to avoid mold and bacteria. Regular cleaning of the device and staying well-hydrated are also advised; using a low setting overnight can help if you breathe with your mouth open during sleep.
