Composer Kim Jae-han’s “New Moon and Waning Moon” Wins Grand Prize at 2025 ‘Orchard Road’ Children’s Song Contest

The 2025 Orchard Road (과수원길) Creative Children’s Song Contest concluded on Dec. 20 at Chuncheon Education & Culture Center, hosted by the Gangwon Ilbo and Chuncheon City. Kim Jae-han’s composition “New Moon and Waning Moon” (초승과 그믐), performed by the children’s duo Moonlight Sound (달빛 소리), took the grand prize and a 1.5 million won award. The festival, held in honor of composer Kim Gong-seon (composer of “Orchard Road”), selected 12 finalist teams from 96 nationwide entries. Judges praised works that balance singable melodies, harmonious choral textures, and accessible accompaniments. Several other prizes were awarded: gold to “Cat Magician” (고양이 마법사), silver to three songs including “When a Song Speaks” and “A Seed That Dreams,” and multiple bronze winners. Organizers emphasized the event’s role in celebrating children’s voices and keeping composer Kim Gong-seon’s legacy alive.
