Tony Leung Chiu-wai, a defining face of 1990s Hong Kong cinema, is back on the big screen as Chow from Wong Kar-wai’s In the Mood for Love (2000). The actor, born in Hong Kong in 1962 who rose from a difficult childhood and an accidental start in acting, became iconic through films like Chungking Express (1994), Happy Together (1997), and In the Mood for Love. On the 31st, a ‘special edition’ of In the Mood for Love opens — the longest version ever released, including previously unseen footage and an extended reunion scene between Chow and Mrs. Chan (Maggie Cheung). (In the Mood for Love: Korean title 화양연화 is a phrase meaning “the most beautiful time of life” and often used as a poetic film title.)
