An exhibition titled 'The Power of Records, Mines' is being extended until April 20 at the Yeongwol Tourist Center. This exhibition, organized by the Yeongwol Cultural Tourism Foundation and Arirang Archive, seeks to preserve the history of Yeongwol coal mines through various records and artifacts. The exhibition covers topics such as the development of coal mines, the lives of miners, industrial changes, and the importance of memory and preservation through documentation. It features over 250 historical items including photos from the 1930s and 1940s, reports from the Japanese colonial period's geological surveys, and works based on the coal mining background. The oldest group photo from 1937, depicting both miners and Japanese military police, highlights the mining conditions during Japanese rule over Korea. The exhibition provides visitors with an opportunity to reflect on the history of coal mining, a key driver of Korea's industrial growth and a staple for commoners' fuel needs.
