Hwaseong City opened the new ‘Hwaseong Seohae Maru Youth Hostel’ on December 20, positioning it as a hub for youth development and regional tourism. About 200 people, including Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun and local officials, attended the ceremony featuring a promotional video, tours, and awards. The hostel (유스호스텔: youth-focused budget accommodation) sits in Gungpyeong tourist area with 103 rooms across basement +4 floors, accommodating up to 358 guests. Facilities praised by attendees include a rooftop with West Sea views, corner suite family bathrooms, a family-friendly kitchen, and an AR (augmented reality) sports experience room. The hostel began operations immediately and recorded high occupancy on its first night. Mayor Jeong said the facility will link youth programs with tourism to boost local vitality, comparing its potential impact to Queenstown’s adventure-tourism-driven development. The city expects the hostel’s programs and stay-focused offerings to increase longer visits and stimulate the local economy.
