From Dec. 26 to Jan. 4, the 22nd Seoul ASSITEJ Winter Festival gathers acclaimed Korean children’s shows across Daehangno theaters. Organized by ASSITEJ Korea (the Korean branch of ASSITEJ, an international association for children’s and youth theatre), the 10-day festival features seven main productions selected for different age groups — preschool (ages 5–7+) and older children/teens (8+). The opening act is a student-performed play, “Mom Thought It Was Okay,” by Namhae Elementary, winner of the national children’s theatre contest. Productions include shadow puppetry, puppet shows, and adaptations like “Gulliver’s Travels.” Free exhibitions and family programs run alongside performances, including a special show by illustrator Park Hyun-min (2022 Bologna Children’s Book Fair ‘Illustrator of the Year’) titled “Snow, Eye, Snow,” interactive art-playgrounds, coloring tied to the festival poster, meet-and-greets, and photo times.
