Starting February 1, Rome will charge tourists an entry fee to six major sites to curb overtourism. Visitors paying €2 (about ₩3,500) will be allowed closer access to the Trevi Fountain (famous for the coin-throwing legend), while five other attractions will cost €5 (about ₩8,700). Roman residents will remain free. City officials cite about 9 million visitors so far this year—roughly 30,000 a day—causing traffic paralysis and pressure on city services. The measure is expected to raise about €6.5 million (≈₩11.3 billion) annually. Some tourists oppose the fees, arguing public fountains should remain free; others say fees might deter repeat visits.
