Renowned South Korean cellist Kim Min-ji will present a recital titled “DANCE” on Dec. 26 at the Seoul Arts Center IBK Chamber Hall. The program centers on dance (무곡) pieces from various countries and eras, ranging from Schumann’s lyrical folk-inspired miniatures and Stravinsky’s lively “Italian Suite” to the fiery Spanish dances of Falla and the Eastern European rhythms of Bartók. The concert closes with Astor Piazzolla’s passionate “Le Grand Tango,” blending tango rhythms and jazz harmonies. Pianist Won Jae-yeon joins Kim, who has an extensive international career—early admission to Korea National University of Arts, advanced studies at New England Conservatory, competition wins at major Korean and international contests, and roles such as principal cello in the Reina Sofía Orchestra and current professor at Seoul National University. The program aims to showcase the cello’s rich tone and the primal charm of dance music, inviting audiences to enjoy it as they would folk songs.
