Will Chicken Prices Rise Again? bhc Chicken Increases Frying Oil Supply Price by 20%

Dining Brands Group, operator of bhc Chicken, said it will raise the supply price of high-oleic sunflower oil (해바라기유) for franchise outlets by 20% from Dec. 30. The 15 kg oil crate price will go up 15,000 won, from 75,000 won to 90,000 won, a move the company attributes to higher international sunflower oil prices and a weaker won. bhc previously raised oil costs in July 2022 but later reduced them seven times. Some worry the supply-price hike could push up retail chicken prices, though Dining Brands says the increase amounts to about 200 won per chicken and that final menu prices are set by individual franchisees; the company plans to persuade partners to minimize retail price hikes and may lower supply prices if market conditions stabilize.
