South Korea named four new science and technology honorees for their major contributions: the late Kwon Young-dae, a physics pioneer who built early radiation detectors and helped establish domestic particle accelerator work; the late Kang Young-sun, who helped found Seoul National University’s biology department and advanced conservation efforts; Lee Kyung-seo, who led development of the country’s first ballistic missile project and key avionics technologies; and the late Lee Min-hwa, who developed Korea’s first ultrasound diagnostic device and helped build the venture ecosystem. The Ministry of Science and ICT selected the four as part of a program honoring individuals whose work advanced national science and technology and who serve as role models for future generations. A 140-member panel of experts reviewed nominations from the public and institutions. Officials emphasized preserving these legacies and supporting scientists’ social recognition.
