French luxury house Chanel owns several historic wineries in France and, uniquely abroad, Napa Valley’s St. Supery—famous for its Sauvignon Blanc. St. Supery traces roots to the 1880s and changed hands several times before evolving into a leading producer with 575 acres of vineyards and 1,600 acres of land, much of it certified Napa Green (environmental certification). Napa’s warm climate is better known for Cabernet Sauvignon, but producers developed an oak-aged style called Fumé Blanc to add smoky, complex characters to Sauvignon Blanc—St. Supery became a benchmark, producing about 10% of Napa’s Sauvignon Blanc. Their key site, Dollarhide Estate, spans ~500 acres and supports diverse soils and styles. CEO Emma Swain (UC Davis alumna) and winemaking VP Michael Scholz have emphasized careful viticulture and customized oak use. Notable wines include the 2024 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc (Rutherford & Dollarhide blend), the Dollarhide single-vineyard 2021, Virtu 2022 (Sémillon-Sauvignon blend), and robust Cabernet bottlings like the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon and Élu 2018. St. Supery’s wines pair well with seafood, citrus-cured fish, grilled meats, and a variety of cheeses; the winery’s history, French sensibility, large estate holdings, and distinct Sauvignon Blanc identity drew Chanel’s interest.
