‘Waves from Busan’—a showcase of six Busan-based performing arts groups—successfully opened at the Korean Cultural Center in New York on Dec. 10. Organized alongside the Busan International Performing Arts Market, the event presented theatre, musical, dance and music works including modern dance company Ja-yu’s new piece “Paradise” and Iljangchunmong’s fusion performance “Eye Contact” blending gugak (traditional Korean music) and contemporary sounds. The showcase offered networking with local industry professionals and a reception where New York presenters discussed U.S. distribution prospects. Following the event, Busan Cultural Foundation signed an exchange agreement with the Korean Cultural Center in New York and APAP (Association of Performing Arts Professionals), aiming to sustain collaboration and expand Busan artists’ international reach.
