Daejeon city has been selected as one of three candidate host cities for the Invictus Games 2029, competing with San Diego (USA) and Aalborg (Denmark). The city passed the first round of review by the UK-based Invictus Games Foundation and completed a high-intensity second-stage evaluation. The Invictus Games, founded in 2014 by Prince Harry, supports the rehabilitation and honors the service of wounded veterans. Daejeon’s history of transforming the wounds of the 6·25 War (Korean War) into national development was highlighted as resonant with the Invictus spirit. The foundation praised Daejeon’s clear vision for hosting Asia’s first Invictus Games and for building lasting rehabilitation and outreach programs in the region. Site inspections and a presentation are scheduled ahead of a final decision expected around June next year. Mayor Lee Jang-woo pledged close cooperation with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs and the Korea Veterans Association to secure the event.
