The Korean National Opera announced it will begin a multi-year presentation of Wagner’s 'Ring' cycle, starting with Das Rheingold ("The Rhinegold") from Oct 29–Nov 1 next year and completing the four operas by 2028. The company’s 2025 season theme is "WAVES," symbolizing irresistible forces of fate. Past Wagner works already staged include Tannhäuser and Tristan und Isolde. Conductor Lotta Königx (who impressed with Death in Venice) and director Lorenzo Fioroni (known for The Love for Three Oranges) will return for the Ring productions. The 2025 season also features Massenet’s Werther (Apr 23–26), the South Korea premiere of Britten’s Peter Grimes (June 18–21) conducted by Alexander Joel and directed by Julien Chavaz, and Verdi’s Don Carlo (Dec 3–6) with conductor Valerio Galli and director Yannis Kokos. Artistic director Choi Sang-ho emphasized the company’s aim to present works exploring humans swept up in destiny and asked for public support as the Ring project unfolds.
