The Israel Tourism Board released playful photos and video of people in Santa suits surfing off Tel Aviv’s Mediterranean beaches instead of riding sleighs. The Santas brought festive props like a Christmas tree, cupcakes and drinks, warmed up together, then caught waves to send holiday greetings for Christmas and Hanukkah (a Jewish traditional festival). Tel Aviv’s tourism authority said the footage highlights the city’s diversity and welcoming spirit, hoping to share its warm, open energy as it reconnects with the world. Known as Israel’s economic and cultural hub and a lively “city that never sleeps,” Tel Aviv enjoys mild December weather, vibrant nightlife, and proximity to ancient Jaffa (also called Joppa). The city will host seasonal events in December — menorah (candleholder) and Christmas tree lightings, street performances, flea markets, and children’s workshops — offering activities for all ages.
