On the 20th at 4:30 PM, master pansori singer Heo Ae-sun will present a full-length (wanchang) performance of Manjeongje Heungboga at the Incheon Intangible Heritage Education and Transmission Center (Incheon Mueongmunhwa Education Jeonsugan) in Michuhol-gu. The event is hosted by Namdo Minyo Pansori Preservation Association and organized by the Gugak Promotion Association Gaeyang Branch, with support from several traditional arts organizations. Pansori (a traditional Korean sung narrative designated as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage and recognized by UNESCO) is a highly interactive performing art combining vocalist, drummer, and audience. Manjeongje Heungboga blends the Eastern style (Dongpyeonje) with the Western style (Seopyeonje)’s gyemyeonjo mode, favoring subtle, restrained expression and deep han (a Korean term for deep sorrow or unresolved grief) over flashy technique. Its narrative remains pure and continuous, with dignified humor and refined satire. Heo Ae-sun, a designated master who completed pansori training for Chunhyangga in 2005, is praised for her wide acting range and powerful yet delicate voice. She has had a long career with the National Changgeuk Company and has won major awards in national gugak competitions.
