The play 'Chiakjae' by theater company Annyeong Factory stages the story of two brothers who meet on Wonju’s Chiakjae Ridge during the Korean War—one serving as a North Korean officer, the other as a South Korean officer. Rooted in a family who once ran a dumpling shop, the drama explores how the deepest rifts come from conflicting memories of their father’s death (accused as a communist) rather than ideology alone. Wonju itself—its magistrate’s office (gamyeong), Wonjucheon River, and Jungang Market—acts as a ‘place of memory’ (a memory-laden locale) woven into flashbacks. Directed by local creator Park Min-jae and adapted from the play 'Bread' into a semi-musical blending music, play, and song, the production aims to make heavy wartime themes accessible. Actors Kim Wang-do and Kim Woo-jin portray the brothers, with the project funded by Wonju Cultural Foundation’s 2025 regional brand support to revive local history through performance.
