South Korea's Culture Minister Choi Hui-young said he will decide by early next year whether to proceed with the planned relocation of national arts ensembles from Seoul. The move, first announced in March to shift groups like the Seoul Arts Troupe to regional cities (including a proposed move to Gwangju), was put on hold after the new administration took office. Choi said the plan was announced without sufficient public consultation and that opinions remain divided among stakeholders and local communities. The ministry is collecting views and will finalize the course of action in early 2026. President Lee also asked for a separate report, noting that plans to make Gwangju an Asia cultural hub should be considered if still government policy.
