The Korea Forest Service published a 91-page booklet marking the 20th anniversary of the Baekdudaegan Protection Act, selecting 20 notable sites along the Baekdudaegan (the main mountain backbone of the Korean Peninsula) for their ecological, scenic, historical and cultural value. Chosen sites include well-known passes and peaks such as Daegwallyeong Old Road, Taebaeksan Cheonje-dan (an altar), Jirisan Cheonwangbong, Seorak Daecheongbong, Sobaeksan Birobong, Munsungjae (Mungyeong Saejae), Nogodan and the Odaesan Woljeongsa fir forest path. The selection followed research, public surveys and cultural-value assessments; the booklet provides photos, site histories and visitor information to promote awareness and sustainable enjoyment of these important natural and cultural assets. The Forest Service said the publication aims to highlight the Baekdudaegan’s value and help preserve it for future generations.
