Hapcheon’s Daijanggyeong Theme Park, created for the 2011 Daijanggyeong Millennium Cultural Festival, interprets and animates the Haeinsa temple’s famed Palman Daejanggyeong (the 81,258 wooden printing blocks of the Tripitaka) — a UNESCO Memory of the World. The park’s hands-on exhibits let visitors touch full-size woodblock replicas, try traditional rubbing/printing, and learn the woodblock making, drying, and preservation techniques (including historic seawater soaking). Immersive media art recreates the historic transport of the blocks to Haeinsa so visitors can walk alongside the journey. Programs range from children’s print activities to advanced workshops and 5D films; rotating exhibitions link calligraphy, carving, and contemporary art to the record’s meaning today. Hapcheon plans to expand realistic content and link the park with nearby Gayasan (mountain) and Haeinsa for longer cultural stays. The park aims to make the Palman Daejanggyeong accessible as a living cultural experience rather than a sealed archive.
