Ulsan’s Ulju County announced plans to build the Ganjeolgot Botanical Garden (working name), targeting completion by 2030. The future-oriented facility will combine traditional greenhouses with digital greenhouses, covering 53,000 m² in Ganjeolgot Park with a total budget of 86.8 billion won. The building will have a gross floor area of 11,700 m² and a maximum height of 38 m. Features include a 450 m media art tunnel (the longest in Korea), skywalk, sky adventure, artificial aurora, a parrot and insect experience hall, F&B lounge, and souvenir shop. Themed as a “plant world tour in Korea,” displays will showcase plants from five oceans and six continents. A feasibility study forecasts annual visitors of about 460,000 and local economic effects including 83.2 billion won in induced production, 40.4 billion won in added value, and 592 jobs; nationwide impacts are estimated larger. Construction is planned to start in 2028 after design phases. Ulju’s mayor said the garden would become a year-round floral landmark at Ganjeolgot (known as a place where Korea’s first sunrise is seen) and help transform local tourism.
