Global hit 'Life of Pi' premiered in Korea, adapting Yann Martel's bestselling novel and Oscar-winning 2012 film for the stage. The West End/Broadway production—winner of multiple Tonys and Olivier Awards—uses sophisticated video, sound, and lighting to convincingly transform the stage into a vast ocean and recreate dramatic storm sequences. The show also features striking puppetry: lifelike animal puppets and skilled 'puppeteers' (퍼펫티어) bring tension and realism, notably in the portrayal of the Bengal tiger Richard Parker. Directors and performers emphasize themes of survival, imagination, and hope, leaving audiences to decide which of the two stories told is “truer.” The Korean premiere stars Park Jung-min and Park Kang-hyun as Pi, with a cast and puppeteers of 27, and runs at GS Art Center through March 2 next year.
