From Niche to Mainstream: Korean-Style Pickup Trucks Grow Sales

Korea's pickup segment is expanding after years as a niche market. New models like Kia's first pickup, the Tasman, and KGM's Musso EV have driven sales—1–11 months registrations rose about 68% year-on-year to 23,495 units. Manufacturers redesigned pickups to improve ride comfort, add convenience features, and introduce electrification, making them more suitable for daily urban use. Strong domestic demand is translating into exports: the Tasman has shipped over 15,000 units to markets such as Australia and New Zealand, while KGM is promoting the Musso EV in Europe and the Middle East. Continued model launches, including a forthcoming Musso gasoline variant, should further broaden consumer choice and boost both local and export growth. (Musso: model name of KGM pickup)
