Cosmecca Korea, a cosmetics ODM, developed plant-based PDRN (polynucleotide) from resilient Korean island plants such as aegibudeul and byeolkkot (local wildflower). Researchers screened 8,000 island specimens, narrowed candidates using historical medicinal records, and extracted DNA to create new PDRN ingredients that reduced inflammatory markers (IL-1α, IL-6) by over 18% and boosted autophagy marker LC3-II by up to 57%. Plant-derived PDRN is cheaper, faster to scale, and animal-free compared with salmon or trout PDRN, opening sustainable, cost-competitive opportunities and easier access to markets like halal. Cosmecca’s R&D-driven product launches (cleansing oil, ampoule “fil-shot”) helped lift Q3 sales 44% year-on-year to KRW 182.4 billion. The company focuses on formulation research to create visually striking, fast-acting products optimized for social channels (e.g., TikTok).
