TETHER: Fate is an international music-theater collaboration between Jeongseon’s regional troupe Geukdansan (극단산) from Korea and Scotland’s Wonder Fools. Premiering on the 18th at Jeongseon Culture & Arts Center, the piece traces three generations (1919–1979) of cross-cultural bonds through Korea’s Arirang (정선아리랑) and Scotland’s Auld Lang Syne (올드 랭 사인). The story follows a Korean student in Glasgow, Kim Dae-han, who falls for Jane in 1919; his son Min-guk meeting Scottish nurse Nancy during the Korean War; and decades later, granddaughter Miso’s documentary visit to Scotland reuniting with an elderly Jane. Live band music, theatre, and dance reimagine traditional folk songs in a modern setting; Scottish actors singing Jeongseon Arirang symbolizes how local songs can convey universal emotions. The show, praised in an Edinburgh showcase for balancing tradition and modernity, is also invited to the Edinburgh Fringe Summerhall next year. Free admission.
