The South Korean government posthumously awarded veteran actress Kim Ji-mi the Gold Crown Cultural Medal, recognizing her as a symbol of a cinematic era. Culture Minister Choi Hwi-young presented the medal at a memorial space at the Seoul Film Center. Kim, who debuted in 1957 with Twilight Train (황혼열차) and appeared in about 700 works, previously received the Silver Crown in 2016. The Ministry highlighted her blend of popular appeal and artistry, and her contributions to expanding Korea's film production base, industry development, and institutional protection of the film ecosystem. The Gold Crown Cultural Medal (a state honor for notable contributions to cultural and artistic development) was also recently awarded posthumously to actor Lee Soon-jae; past recipients include Youn Yuh-jung (2021) and Lee Jung-jae (2022).
