As the year ends, Seoul Tourism Foundation recommends four indoor cinematic spots across Seoul for film lovers. 1) Seoul Art Cinema (서울아트시네마): A classic arthouse theater in Jongno established in 2002, preserving and screening classic and art films, hosting restorations, auteur retrospectives, guest programs with famous directors, talks (GV), and rare exhibitions. A Kurosawa Kiyoshi retrospective runs until the 21st. 2) Laika Cinema (라이카시네마): A single-screen curated theater in Yeonhui-dong focusing on indie, experimental, and international art films, offering themed monthly programs, commentary, program notes, and a rooftop garden. December line-up includes domestic titles like Hurdle and international films like Happy Lazzaro. 3) My Favorite (마이페이보릿): An independent music edit shop in Seogyo-dong selling film OSTs on LP, CDs and rare cassettes, plus film goods, posters, photo books and the owner’s handwritten critiques—perfect for discovering film-music treasures and local community vibes. 4) Copkino Cinephile Bookshop (코프키노 시네필 책방): A small independent bookstore in Jungnang-gu curated around film books—criticism, director studies, rare scripts and magazines—where visitors can sip coffee, join monthly reading and film-writing meetups, and see signed posters and memorabilia. These venues together offer a cinematic itinerary beyond movie theaters, blending screenings, music, archives and thoughtful reading for a film-centered Seoul experience.
