The new play 'Rhapsody' opens on the 25th and runs through next month at Theater Qum in Jongno, Seoul. Presented by the troupe Kkot-eul Piuda, the 1944-set drama follows a Korean family in remote California secretly raising funds for the independence movement and the mysterious visitors who arrive. Blending historical facts with imagination, the piece honors countless unnamed independence activists and even offers a fictional account of the origins of the national anthem (Aegukga). Cast members include Lee Woong-ho and Hong Jeong-jae, among others. Director Hwang Sung-eun said the play aims to remind audiences of the pride and sacrifices of overseas fighters and to value the present.
